What is Organic?

Organic is an agricultural system that sustains the health of soils, ecosystems, and communities, without the use of synthetic fertilizer or pesticides. It promotes the cycling of resources, ecological balance and biodiversity conservation.

Why it matters.

We believe organic is working with nature, rather than against it. That’s why every single product we make is Certified Organic, because these practices result in healthier people and communities, and reduces our environmental impact.

To achieve Canadian organic certification, 95% or more of the ingredients within a product must be certified organic. 

FUN FACT! 5% of ingredients can be non-organic because some ingredients such as baking powder and baking soda are not available as Certified Organic.

What is regenerative organic farming? 

Due to the influence of climate change, and practices like over-farming & chemical use, the soil where our food grows isn’t as healthy as it used to be. 

 Regenerative organic farming is a way to make the soil healthy again by working with nature. Farmers use innovative techniques like cover crops, adding compost, and crop rotations to help the soil heal. This way, we can have healthy soil and good food for ourselves and future generations. 

What is ROO? Regenerative Organic Oats Project.

Regenerative Organic Oats (ROO) is a three-year pilot project that helps farmers grow oats in a unique way which also heals the soil. This project is supported by MadeGood and other partners. 

 The project helps farmers use new methods to make their soil healthier and their oat plants more resilient, even with our changing climate. The goal is to help heal the planet by capturing more carbon and supporting the development of a community of farmers who care about these practices.  

 By helping farmers explore and develop these new practical methods, we can have better oat farms, healthier communities, and a healthier planet.

How can we farm better?

By taking part in innovative programs, such as Regenerative Organic Oats (ROO) Project: a three-year pilot program where we partner with organic oat farmers to explore and develop innovative farming techniques that will not only improve soil health, but also enhance biodiversity and crop resilience.

How do we support the communities where our ingredients grow?

We continuously participate in opportunities to support our communities of growers. In addition to ROO, we’re participating in the Nuwa Muun (“Great Woman” in Awajún) project, which supports 25 female farmers in Peru. Its goals are to improve soil health and yields through organic farming education, as well as increase economic prosperity in these communities.

How do we hold ourselves accountable?

We believe that Organic Certification is the gold-standard for accountability. It is the only eco-label that requires 3rd party federal inspection & enforcement, as well as providing traceability from the farm to the shelves of your local retailers.
